Step 1: Find your starting point
In the middle of your wall, make a pencil mark that is with width of 4 boards down from the ceiling. In this case, the boards are 5 inches wide so our mark is 20” down.
In the middle of your wall, make a pencil mark that is with width of 4 boards down from the ceiling. In this case, the boards are 5 inches wide so our mark is 20” down.
A single pencil mark is all you will need to place your first piece.
Using your level as a straight edge, draw a level line on your mark you made earlier with a pencil.
Take your time to make sure this reference line is level. Make a dark line with your pencil the length of your level.
Choose a long piece for your first board. This will help you maintain a level line throughout the wall. Peel the first two pieces of backing off completely.
Only peel 10” of the third strip off and fold this tag over the edge. This is the edge that will be in contact with the wall as you are setting your first piece in place. It is important to have this liner still on so that the board does not accidentally stick to the wall.
With the board angled away from the wall so that the exposed adhesive does not come in contact the surface, place the board on the level line you drew earlier. When you feel like the board and the line match up well, slowly and gently press the board towards the wall so the adhesive makes contact with the wall.
Confirm the first board looks even with the line and give it a pat to stick to the wall.
Gently pull the liner tag downwards at a 45 degree angle to expose the third strip of adhesive to the wall.
Using a J-Roller, put some pressure on the first piece to make sure it is firmly attached to the wall. The adhesive is pressure sensitive and is activated by the pressure you exert onto it.
Using the first board as a reference, place your second board. You can peel off all three strips of adhesive backing this time. Remember you want to overlap your boards to stagger the ends.
Continue to add boards and build upon your wall. Remember to use the J-Roller every several rows to make sure the boards make good contact with your wall and that you are properly activating the pressure sensitive adhesive.
